Wednesday 21 June 06
Oh, what a night. Turns out that my
room/dog kennel's shower system is linked to the hotel's cold water
mains. Yes, quite logical. However, this means an almost instant increase
in the shower water temperature whenever anyone flushes their
toilet. I now have scolds covering various parts of my anatomy and
ONE part in particular!
10 AM Meeting with MedHotels Rep
After feasting on French Toast and
baked beans I turned up at the MedHotels Rep's meeting at 9:55 (5
minutes before the parade). Unfortunately, the Scottish people had
arrived early and I had to make do with a brief summary of tours and
excursions.
Priorities are everything, so when
the meeting concluded I crossed the road to the local supermarket
and purchased a case of beer, some wine and a small bottle of water.
My plan for the day:
- Get Internet access
- Explore the City
- Find a better venue to watch the
football
- Take some panoramic photos for my
business meeting tomorrow
Things got off to a bad start. I was
assailed by the most awful stomach cramps shortly after returning to
my room with the essential items recently purchased from the
supermarket. The cramps were probably due to my use of the tap
water when cleaning my teeth last night. Although, 3 liters of
cold beer and a bottle of wine consumed during the match might have
some share of the blame.
Wearing out the Sideways Toilet
Me and the amazing small
"sideways toilet" (see 20-06-06)
became well acquainted during the next 6 hours.
Internet
The Internet Cafe's manager was
incredible helpful and although a wireless connection was not
possible, we did manage to get a LAN set-up and it cost me... wait
for it Cunard... 1.5 Euros for 1 hour.
Exploring
Just got back from exploring the bars
in the harbour area and have found a first class venue for football
fans of ALL nations. I sat with a group of Dutch people and although
the match was a bit crap, they were in great spirits.
On returning to the room/kennel I
found an extra two rolls of toilet paper had been placed just inside
the door. Maybe I wasn't so accurate when using the sideways
toilet??
Roll on Sunday.
Tomorrow I plan to take the Dolphin
Cruise and explore some sea caves and other things.
The business meeting has been
cancelled until next week, which is fortunate, as I forgot to bring
an USB cable for the camera... oh, I also forgot my travel iron. The
hotel charges a rental for using the irons. Not 4 star service, more
like half a moon, which, if you can picture it, is a very close
image of me when using the sideways toilet!!
More later... and hopefully some
pictures.

About JackonLand Blog/ Diary
This diary will be updated regularly
(20th June to 4th July 2006) and primarily it is intended to keep my
family and friends informed
about my progress during my working holiday in Crete. Hopefully,
I'll be able to publish some memorable
pictures and descriptions from each excursion and visits to historical places
of interest.
Other Internet users are welcome to
read the pages and download pictures for their personal use. I would
also encourage visitors to send recommendations of places to visit or
tour companies to use in Rethymnon, based on their
own experience or research.
