Friday 23 June 06
A very hot day.
An almost sleepless night due to some
people on "all inclusive" checking out the following
day. Guess they were trying to get their money's worth. Tempted to
join them but resisted, most unusual for me.
Dolphin Tour
Bit of a mystery why this tour has a
"Dolphin" associated with it. Never mind, it was
absolutely brilliant. We got to visit 2 large caves and a
spectacular arch carved out by the sea. Pictures to follow.
After the caves we got dumped in a
small fishing village for 2 hours. I went off on my own and climbed
the tallest hill walking through a very aromatic orchard. The inland
view was OK, but spoilt by a duel carriageway.
Once back in the hotel room, I
surveyed the very poor accommodation.
Time for a change.
Hotel Jo-An Crete had their chance
and failed.
Despite the extra cost involved, I'm
going to move to accommodation that justifies 4 STARS and NOT 2
MOONS!!!
I informed the hotel tonight of my
intentions. I was asked "why didn't you complain on the first
night?"
Rather novel concept in 4 STAR hotel
treatment. Give them crap, if they don't complain... stuff them.
Believe me, this place is dire.
Pictures will be published when I
find a vendor of Nikon products.
Until then you'll have to do with my crap
movie of the local fort. It's in Windows Media format, if it doesn't
open correctly... phone Bill (master) Gates.
Meeting up with UJ tomorrow... 1
Mellor+1 Coveney+ nearly 30 years of Mulligan influence... should
make one hell of a reunion.
Roll on England... me and UJ will be
arm-in-arm watching the match on Sunday (probably well pissed).
Dave, Joe & Phil, wherever you watch the match, rest assured
we'll be thinking of you.
Just hope the team turns up...
40 f***k*** Years
Oh, been in Crete for 4 days and
finally somebody spoke to me: "Got a light Mate". She had
a strange accent and beautiful eyes.
I went to the war memorial and paid
my respects.
Never realised how many Aussies lost
their lives. Greek and Brit troops also contributed to the death
toll. The German graveyard is huge and well tended.
My Dad was involved in the last
war.
The Mellor's & Coveney's have a
proud tradition for service to the Crown. No recognition... of
course... and none wanted... of course.
So f***king sad.
Roll on England...

About JackonLand Blog/ Diary
This diary will be updated regularly
(20th June to 4th July 2006) and primarily it is intended to keep my
family and friends informed
about my progress during my working holiday in Crete. Hopefully,
I'll be able to publish some memorable
pictures and descriptions from each excursion and visits to historical places
of interest.
Other Internet users are welcome to
read the pages and download pictures for their personal use. I would
also encourage visitors to send recommendations of places to visit or
tour companies to use in Rethymnon, based on their
own experience or research.
