Arrives Montevideo, Uruguay

29 Jan - Our Day in Montevideo - Art & Architecture Tour, followed by beer and a nap! Due to the late arrival and early departure of the ship, we were unable to take our preferred tour of the Juanico Winery. Bit of a shame really, I'd intended to lower their reserve stocks of vino quite considerably. After much ado with the tour booking staff, we finally ended up on the Art & Architecture Tour. At first I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to enhance my new found artistic talents. Sadly, I have to report that after a hour of listening to incomprehensible narratives about various Uruguayan artists, their lovers, brush techniques and inspiration, I'd had ENOUGH. So, I made a run for freedom and a cold beer, what's even sadder... I got caught in the act and on camera (see below). Actually, it wasn't all that bad. Ann enjoyed the open air antique market and some of the pictures and sculptures were outstanding. We bought a few presents, one of which is a magnificent Batik print with wonderful colours in swirling patterns, Amy will just love it! By the time we got back to the ship we were both absolutely knackered. First stop, the Red Lion and two very swift halves. Then back to the cabin for a nap. There's supposed to be a deck party tonight at 11 pm, which includes a barbecue and complementary wine. It would be a disgrace to miss that, so I might have to exit the cabin using extreme stealth and absolutely minimum lighting to avoid waking Ann up (AKA... creeping out for a loner session).
